Fire and Building Emergency Procedures

 
 

Fire

  • Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station and call 9-1-1 if possible.

  • Evacuate the building. Refer to the evacuation route map posted by your location.

  • Do not enter the building until authorized by Public Safety or a college official.

 

Evacuation Information

  • Evacuate the building. Refer to the evacuation route map posted by your location.

  • Do not use elevators.

  • Secure any hazardous materials or equipment before leaving.

  • Follow directions given by Public Safety officers or other campus officials.

  • Move as far away as possible from all buildings.

  • Assist persons with disabilities or special needs.

  • Remain on campus until directed to leave.

 

Earthquake

  • Duck and cover under a table or against an inside wall (not in a doorway) until the shaking stops.

  • After the shaking stops, check yourself and others for injuries. Assist those in need.

  • Evacuate the building using the nearest exit. Refer to the evacuation route map posted by your location.

 

Suspicious Person

  • Do not confront the person.

  • Secure your own safety and the safety of others around you. Remain where you are until it is clearly safe for you to leave the area.

  • Call Public Safety at (425) 564-2400 or ext. 2400 on a campus phone. Provide as much information about the individual(s) involved, the location, and if any weapons are involved.

 

Suspicious Package

  • Do not touch or disturb the object.

  • Call Public Safety at (425) 564-2400 or ext. 2400 on a campus phone.

  • Notify your supervisor and/or your instructor.

  • Be prepared to evacuate.

 

Hazardous Materials Release

  • Call 9-1-1 and notify Public Safety at (425)564-2400 or ext. 2400 from a campus phone.

  • Move away from the hazard to a safe location.

  • Alert others to stay clear of the area.

  • Notify emergency personnel if you have been exposed or have information about the release.

 

Intruder Alert

If an armed or threatening intruder comes onto college property it is very important that you report it immediately and take protective actions. 

  • Remain in the classroom or office and immediately lock all doors if possible.

  • Call 9-1-1. Give an accurate description of the person(s), their location, and if any weapons are involved.

  • Call Public Safety at (425) 564-2400 or ext. 2400 on a campus phone and report the above information.

  • Lock the windows and close the blinds or curtains.

  • Turn off all lights and audio equipment.

  • Stay out of the open areas and be as quiet as possible.

  • Remain as calm as possible.

  • Keep the room secure until police or Public Safety arrive and give instructions.

 

Medical Emergency

  • Call 9-1-1

  • Call Public Safety at (425) 564-2400 or ext. 2400 on a campus phone. State that medical aid is needed and describe:

    • The location of the injured or sick person.

    • The nature of the injury or medical problem (e.g. bleeding, breathing problem, unconscious, etc.)

    • Your name

    • The telephone number from which you are calling.

  • After calling Public Safety, return to the injured person; do not leave the scene or leave the scene or leave the injured person alone until help arrives.

  • Give first aid if you are qualified to do so.
