The program prepares graduates for pursuing a career as a radiation therapist with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver prescribed treatments safely and competently and provide quality patient care. In affirming the mission, vision and core values of Bellevue College, the Radiation Therapy program places students at the center of its program and supports and promotes the excellence of their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Purpose Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the Radiation Therapy program at Bellevue College is to provide students with a high quality education and in partnership with radiation oncology centers to fulfill the radiation therapist needs of the State of Washington and when applicable the Pacific Northwest region. The program prepares graduates to become radiation therapists with the essential knowledge and skills to administer prescribed treatments competently and provide quality patient care. In adhering to the mission, vision and core values of Bellevue College, the Radiation Therapy Program focuses on student success and promotes the excellence of their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Program Goal One:<\/strong> Students will be clinically competent as entry level radiation therapists<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Student Learning Outcomes:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Student will implement appropriate clinical procedures<\/li><li>Student will apply principles of radiation protection to clinical practice<\/li><li>Student will apply appropriate ethical and legal practices<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Program Goal Two:<\/strong> Students\/graduates will be able to effectively communicate in all aspects of radiation therapy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Student Learning Outcomes:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Student will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with members of the oncology team<\/li><li>Student will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Program Goal Three:<\/strong> Students\/graduates will be able to apply critical thinking and problem solving in analyzing radiation therapy scenarios<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Student Learning Outcomes:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Student will demonstrate appropriate critical thinking skills and problem solving in clinical situations<\/li><li>Student will demonstrate appropriate critical thinking skills and problem solving in didactic situations<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Program Goal Four:<\/strong> Students will exhibit professional growth in the program and after graduation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Student Learning Outcomes:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Students will join the ASRT as student members<\/li><li>Students will participate in the ASRT Directed Readings Program<\/li><li>Graduates will continue with their formal education<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Effectiveness Measures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Credentialing Examination Pass Rate \u2013 2013 through 2017<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the number of students who pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination on the first attempt within six months of graduation from the program. The figure reflects an average over a five-year span. The program\u2019s credentialing examination pass rate stated as an average from the years 2013 through 2017 is 100%. Forty-seven (47) graduates of this program took the exam, all passed the exam and the average scaled score was 88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Job Placement Rate \u2013 2013 through 2017<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the number of students that gain employment in the radiologic sciences within&nbsp;twelve months of graduation versus the number that graduate and are actively seeking employment. The figure reflects an average over a five-year span. The program\u2019s job placement rate as an average from the years 2013 through 2017 is 100%. Forty-Two (42) of the graduates gained employment in radiation therapy and five (5) graduates continued education in a medical dosimetry program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Completion Rate \u2013 2013 through 2017<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an annual measurement of the number of students that began the program divided by the number of students that actually completed the program.&nbsp;Over the five years 2013-2017, fifty (50) students started the program and forty-seven (47) completed the program.
