In addition to being a place&nbsp;for people to find me,&nbsp;it can&nbsp;be&nbsp;useful to know what kind of experience and engagement I&nbsp;bring to Bellevue College.&nbsp;Before I came to Washington State, I was a teacher, a scholar, and a leader.&nbsp;Now&nbsp;I am a different kind of leader, but, as&nbsp;a&nbsp;historian, I feel strongly that you&nbsp;can\u2019t&nbsp;forget your past.&nbsp;&nbsp;The dry recitation of positions and publications has its purpose, but if you would like to talk about&nbsp;the work&nbsp;I\u2019ve&nbsp;done,&nbsp;the courses&nbsp;I\u2019ve&nbsp;taught,&nbsp;or anything else, please&nbsp;contact me at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:jeff.horn@bellevuecollege.edu\">jeff.horn@bellevuecollege.edu<\/a>&nbsp;or swing by A254C on the beautiful Bellevue&nbsp;College&nbsp;campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeff Horn received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania&nbsp;after doing a BA\/MA at&nbsp;the&nbsp;Johns&nbsp;Hopkins University.&nbsp;He&nbsp;taught&nbsp;full-time&nbsp;for more than 31 years&nbsp;at Stetson University, George Mason University, and Manhattan College (now Manhattan University).&nbsp;&nbsp;Horn has been Dean of Social Science at Bellevue College since January 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Horn is a French, European and global historian who authored or edited nine books&nbsp;on a&nbsp;wide&nbsp;variety of topics.&nbsp;&nbsp;They include:&nbsp;<em>A People\u2019s History of the World, 1400 to the present<\/em>&nbsp;(Oxford University Press, 2022);&nbsp;<em>The Making of a Terrorist: Alexandre&nbsp;Rousselin&nbsp;and the French Revolution<\/em>&nbsp;(Oxford University Press, 2021&nbsp;[Paperback edition: 2023]);&nbsp;ed.,&nbsp;<em>Voices of a People\u2019s History of the World, 1400 to the present<\/em>&nbsp;(Oxford University Press, 2022);&nbsp;<em>The Industrial Revolution: History, Documents, and Key Questions<\/em>&nbsp;(ABC-CLIO [now Bloomsbury], 2016);&nbsp;<em>Economic Development in Early Modern France: The Privilege of Liberty, 1650-1820<\/em>&nbsp;(Cambridge University Press, 2015&nbsp;[Paperback edition: 2017]);&nbsp;ed. with&nbsp;with&nbsp;Leonard N.&nbsp;Rosenband&nbsp;and Merritt Roe Smith,&nbsp;<em>Reconceptualizing the Industrial Revolution<\/em>&nbsp;(MIT Press, 2010);&nbsp;<em>The Industrial Revolution: Milestones in Business History<\/em>.<em>&nbsp;<\/em>Greenwood Press [now Bloomsbury], 2007;&nbsp;<em>The Path Not Taken: French Industrialization in the Age of Revolution, 1750-1830<\/em>&nbsp;(MIT Press, 2006&nbsp;[Paperback edition: 2008]); and&nbsp;<em>\u00ab Qui parle pour la nation? \u00bb&nbsp;&nbsp;Les \u00e9lections et les \u00e9lus de la Champagne m\u00e9ridionale, 1765-1830<\/em>&nbsp;(Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des \u00e9tudes robespierristes, 2004).&nbsp;&nbsp;Horn has also written&nbsp;44 articles and book chapters&nbsp;along with&nbsp;69&nbsp;scholarly book reviews while delivering&nbsp;70&nbsp;plenaries, invited talks, and conference papers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Horn has received grants from the National Science Foundation&nbsp;(1999-2000; 1993-95),&nbsp;National Endowment for the Humanities&nbsp;(2009),&nbsp;the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and&nbsp;Technology (2002-03)&nbsp;the French government&nbsp;(1990-91), Stetson University&nbsp;(1997; 1996; 1994), and Manhattan College&nbsp;(2023; 2020; 2017; 2014;&nbsp;2010; 2008; 2006; 2002).&nbsp;He is the recipient of the&nbsp;2011&nbsp;Martin Rollins Interfaith Brotherhood Award from the Riverdale&nbsp;(New York)&nbsp;Jewish Community Relations Council.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to&nbsp;extensive&nbsp;service to his&nbsp;home institutions,&nbsp;Horn has served on committees for the National Endowment for the Humanities&nbsp;(2012; 2006) and the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (1998-2000). With David&nbsp;Troyansky, Horn was Co-Moderator of the New York French History Group (2016-23). Horn&nbsp;has held many positions&nbsp;within the Society for French Historical Studies, including&nbsp;two terms as Co-President&nbsp;(with Sally Charnow) in 2023-24 and 2020-21.
