Some of us have been trained through a more \u2018traditional\u2019 route, whereas others have been trained in less conventional ways. We are undoubtedly interdisciplinarians, as several of us have taught in interdisciplinary situations. We are fascinated in exploring the intersections between sociology and other disciplines, and we often \u2018pull\u2019 from other disciplines in our courses in order to deepen learning. I am originally from the Pacific Northwest, but I have lived in California, New York, and overseas. I was born in Seattle, because that is where the relevant hospital was, but then my parents brought me home to Bellevue to the house where I lived my entire childhood and where my mom still resides today. But this story begins in 1990 when I was an undergraduate at UCLA. I started college as a pre-law, political science student but found myself really enjoying my Afro-American Studies courses I was taking as electives. Despite those loves, I travelled to College Station, TX for five years of graduate school in the sweltering heat. For over 20 years, her work has revolved around curriculum design (specializing in online and hybrid), mentoring,\u00a0 and university teaching, though most recently she&#8217;s returned to creative writing (memoir, poetry, and fiction).
