The mission of the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium is to enhance higher education opportunities for students seeking to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); to enrich and improve STEM education at Washington’s diverse pre-college, college, university, and community learning centers; and to provide public outreach for NASA missions, and thereby strengthen the future workforce for NASA and our nation.
Bellevue College is a member of the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium since 2017, receiving funding to enhance our rocketry program. In 2019 we coordinated our first four Space Grant Co-ops. Currently, we are working on the initial phase of curriculum planning ad development to bring rocketry-related labs, activities, and assignments into their calculus-based physics sequence.
Rocketry & Aerospace Club serves as a coordinating hub for all activities related to Space Grant. In 2019-2020 we had 26 active members who participated in at least two events during the year. Club membership is extremely diverse: over 30% of our members are female. In addition, over 60% of club members are students of color, and 35% are from groups that are underrepresented in STEM. Apply for a Space Grant Scholarship
You may get funding based on academic merit, financial need, personal essays, and recommendations from a faculty or staff member.
- Apply for the STEM to Stern program
- Apply for the BC Foundation Scholarship, with one application, students are automatically considered for the majority of our available scholarships. The application for scholarships is available annually from January through March. Scholarships provide funding for the upcoming academic year – Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Students can apply for multiple years as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility
To be considered for the Space Grant Scholarship, students must:
- Plan to attend or currently be attending Bellevue College.
- Be a U.S. citizen or national.
- Maintain a minimum of 2.00 or above cumulative high school GPA through fall quarter/semester, if applying as a high school senior.
- Maintain a minimum of 2.00 or above cumulative college GPA through fall quarter/semester, if applying as a college student.
- Some Foundation scholarships require a student to be enrolled full-time, but others do not. Full-time enrollment is considered 12 or more credits per quarter.
Upon notification of scholarship award, selected incoming students are required to:
- Spend 150+ hours per year on Space Grant-related activities, which can include work in Rocketry & Aerospace Club, independent research projects, class projects related to aerospace, etc.
