{"id":943,"date":"2023-07-24T14:03:23","date_gmt":"2023-07-24T21:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/student-success\/?page_id=943"},"modified":"2026-03-31T11:15:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T18:15:51","slug":"about-early-alert-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/student-success\/about-early-alert-2\/","title":{"rendered":"About Early Alert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bellevue\u202fCollege\u2019s Early Alert Program is a Faculty and Student Affairs led student success initiative that aims to support the whole student and their success.\u00a0The Early Alert Program strives\u202fto connect students to integral\u202fcampus resources that will support, encourage and\u202fempower\u202fthem\u202fat Bellevue College and beyond.\u202f Early Alert strives to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advocate for course continuation or withdrawal as it best meets the needs of each individual student.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educate students as they navigate the college environment, so they develop the\u202frelationships,\u202fresilience and confidence\u202fto seek out support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Alert Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When an instructor observes a student meeting one of the following criteria, they are&nbsp;strongly encouraged&nbsp;to submit the&nbsp;Early Alert&nbsp;form:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-white-background-color has-background\">\n<li><strong>Never attended<\/strong>&nbsp;(If this is selected a reminder will pop up to please only submit if the student is still not attending after the fifth day of the quarter)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Missing classes<\/strong>\/stopped logging in to Canvas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Missing assignments<\/strong>&nbsp;(If this is selected, a comment box will appear to request additional details. For example, is this the first missed assignment, is this one of several missing assignments, what is the significance in terms of percentage or points for the class.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Low performance on testing<\/strong>&nbsp;(If this is selected, a comment box will appear to request additional details. For example, if the exam is a high stakes exam or any other helpful information.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Early Alert Works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Instructor observes patterns in class regarding attendance, participation, and academic performance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the student meets one or more of the criteria listed above, the instructor submits the Early Alert.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the Early Alert is submitted the instructor receives a confirmation email, and the student receives both a text message and a customized email alerting them of the concern.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Student Success &amp; Retention Peer Educator will personally reach out to the student as well using a combination of phone call, email and text messaging. The Peer Educator provides support and resource referral based on the information provided by the student.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The alert is closed out after a successful communication takes place with the student or after multiple attempts have been made by the Peer Educator.
