About Earth Month 2025<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to Earth Month, Bellevue College & Office of Sustainability’s 26th annual celebration of our planet, environmental conservation, and climate action. This year, we have an exciting lineup of speakers, workshops, film screenings, giveaways, stewardship events, an Earth Market, and more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s theme, Make Waves: Amplify Your Voice<\/strong><\/em>, centers around empowering our campus community to speak up in the face of environmental and sociopolitical issues. We all can leave ripples in the pond that echo outwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All events are open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Snacks and prize drawings will be at every speaker session and workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earth Market<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Join our annual Earth Month market to connect with local organizations working in sustainability, and purchase locally crafted goods! The event is April 30th from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm in the C Courtyard (depending on weather).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E-waste Collection Bin (Drop off)<\/td>Donate any personal electronics that are broken, old, or items you just don\u2019t want anymore!

\nLocal company PCs for People Seattle will recycle your old electronics in an environmentally friendly manner, while ensuring any data on the device is securely removed or destroyed. Refurbished technology then gets donated to those in need.

Habitat Restoration<\/td>Join the Office of Sustainability and Grounds Team for an afternoon of work supporting habitat restoration on campus. With nearly 100 acres of urban forest, our campus is the site of diverse species, and a few invasive ones! Help remove invasive plants and keep our campus ecosystem healthy. <\/td>April 8, 2025

Tree Giveaway <\/td>Register using your BC email to reserve your FREE tree from local non-profit 300 Trees here. Trees are available for BC students, staff, and faculty to take home and are meant to be planted outside to add to the Urban Tree Canopy.

\nAll trees are in 1-gallon pots and there is a variety to choose from: California lilac, Cascara, Mountain Hemlock, Pacific Wax Myrtle, Crabapple. One tree per person please!

Public Transit Orientation by Hopelink<\/td>Learn how to use an ORCA card and navigate public transit around campus with a walking tour. We will take a short walk to the Eastgate Park & Ride, use an ORCA card (provided) and ride the bus back to campus. This is a great opportunity to learn how to ride the bus and receive a free, pre-loaded ORCA card ($22 value)! Book Lecture: Soil<\/span><\/td>Prof. Dungy will talk about the experiences that led her to write her recent book “Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden” which addresses the intersection of race, climate justice, community history. Costa Rica Experience – Bringing a \u201cBlue Zone\u201d Lifestyle to Bellevue College <\/td>Join BC students to learn how Blue Zone living on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica compares to that of the United States and Bellevue College specifically. These Global Wellness students traveled to Costa Rica during Spring Break of 2025 to answer research questions about the impact of the power nine attributes and how these lifestyle practices could be brought back to Bellevue College and have an impact on us all.

Film Screening: Common Ground
\n<\/td>		Grab some free popcorn and watch the newly released documentary film Common Ground in the Cafeteria. Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut success documentary, Kiss the Ground, which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic expose\u2019 with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement, Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative \u201cregenerative\u201d models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America\u2019s economy \u2013 before it\u2019s too late. <\/td>April 28, 2025
