Not too much. Mostly plants.<\/em> \u2013 Michael Pollan<\/p>\n<p>When Michael Pollan wrote <em>In Defense of Food<\/em> he explored the idea that eating can represent our approach to life. To eat with purpose transforms a simple chore into an expression of ethics.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Bellevue College takes this approach to education. There is an opportunity to educate the \u201cwhole person.\u201d Attending classes, getting a degree, and getting a job are not boxes to check off a list, but these are opportunities to understand better how the world functions and how we contribute to it.<\/p>\n<p>The Produce Market at Bellevue College reflects Bellevue College\u2019s educational style. It creates a new forum in a common place, building new connections within the BC community. Connecting with food, cooking it, and eating it does not have to be a solitary practice. In fact, connecting with food can be something we do together.<\/p>\n<p>The Bellevue College Produce Market offers seasonal fruits and vegetables every Thursday beginning at 10:30am. The Produce Market ends when we run out of produce or at 1:00pm \u2013 whichever comes first. We focus on sourcing produce from local growers from Washington State. Occasionally we source from Oregon if a particular item cannot be found in-state. We do our best to 1) meet demand and 2) offer organic produce.<\/p>\n<p>Items offered include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shiitake and Crimini Mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>Onions and leeks<\/li>\n<li>Pears<\/li>\n<li>Radishes<\/li>\n<li>Lettuce and Spinach<\/li>\n<li>Asparagus<\/li>\n<li>Potatoes<\/li>\n<li>Beets<\/li>\n<li>Rhubarb<\/li>\n<li>Many more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Produce Market will run until June 12<sup>th<\/sup> and it will begin again in Fall Quarter, 2014.
