{"id":1607,"date":"2012-02-03T11:24:37","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T19:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/?p=1607"},"modified":"2013-11-19T10:56:59","modified_gmt":"2013-11-19T18:56:59","slug":"the-great-paper-chase-ii-double-or-nothing-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/02\/03\/the-great-paper-chase-ii-double-or-nothing-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Paper Chase II: Double or Nothing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>You may remember last winter when the Environmental Advisory Committee challenged you to try and reduce your paper use on campus. \u00a0Well, we\u2019re back to ask you to try to do it again during the second annual Great Paper Chase Challenge! Did we say there were prizes again?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>There are three ways you can participate in the challenge this year:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p><strong>(1) Take the Paper Reduction Challenge<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Try to reduce the amount of paper you use on a daily basis. \u00a0For the 5 instructional divisions we now have 2 years worth of paper-use data from the copy center. \u00a0Some divisions made great headway last year and it would be great if we could see another 5% prop in overall use (per student capita). \u00a0We challenge you to be creative and in particular work to reduce wasted copies. \u00a0See tips compiled last year at (<a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2011\/01\/18\/tips-for-fulfilling-the-bc-paper-pledge\/\">\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2011\/01\/18\/tips-for-fulfilling-the-bc-paper-pledge\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p align=\"center\">The summary for 2010 and 2011 paper use for instructional divisions is below:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p><strong>(2) Make Meetings \u00a0&#8220;Double or Nothing&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A lot of paper moves through meetings and a lot of it is single sided. \u00a0We encourage you to make your meeting &#8220;double or nothing&#8221; by either making double sided copies for any meeting handouts or not printing at all.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>(3) Faculty \u2013 Don&#8217;t be square, choose to &#8220;Turn on, Opt In, \u00a0Drop paper&#8221; for Online Evaluations<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Paper student evaluations use a tremendous amount of paper and staff time. Online evaluations, though they require a shift in culture change to really take off, put feedback in an easy to compile form and don&#8217;t take away from class time. We encourage you to opt in and find creative ways to get students to participate (we&#8217;ll post a list of suggestions soon). \u00a0See the information on how to &#8220;opt in&#8221; at (<a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/01\/30\/online-course-evaluations\/\" target=\"_blank\">\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/01\/30\/online-course-evaluations\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p><strong>And don&#8217;t forget the prizes!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>light breakfast buffet<\/strong>\u00a0will be awarded to to the Instructional Division that has the greatest reduction in paper use (based on total cost) this winter quarter compared to Winter 2011. (We\u2019re sorry we can&#8217;t include all offices yet \u2013 we still need a good way to tally paper use in other areas.)<\/li>\n<li>We will also hold a\u00a0<strong>prize drawing for those participating to make meetings &#8220;double of nothing&#8221;, and for faculty who opt in to online evals<\/strong>.
