{"id":3746,"date":"2012-11-21T12:29:45","date_gmt":"2012-11-21T20:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/?p=3746"},"modified":"2021-11-23T15:48:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T23:48:57","slug":"lighting-retrofits-make-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/11\/21\/lighting-retrofits-make-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Lighting Retrofits Make Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are about half-way through lighting retrofit that will reduce electricity consumption an impressive 17%.\u00a0 The lighting retrofit is funded in part by a Department of Commerce Grant and incentives from Puget Sound Energy and will save the college $136,000 per year.<\/p>\n<p>You may notice light sensors on the wall or ceiling with blinking red and green lights.\u00a0 These sensors are designed to turn off the lights when they\u2019re accidentally left on.\u00a0 You can continue to turn on-and-off the lights as you choose in your office or classroom.\u00a0 In addition, lights may come on automatically now in some areas when you enter.\u00a0 As part of the retrofit we are employing <a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/03\/22\/a-bright-idea\/\">LED<\/a> technology.\u00a0 For example, the L building atrium up-lights are now LED and equipped with photo-cells.\u00a0 These provide more light, use 80% less energy, and there will be no more light shining into the skylight on a sunny day.\u00a0 \u00a0The retrofits have touched much of campus, but are mostly invisible.\u00a0 One space that is visible is the cafeteria which a noticeable boost in quality of light while reducing energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>With the interior spaces mostly complete, the retrofit will continue into the parking lots.\u00a0 The new parking lot lights will be equipped with a \u201chigh-low\u201d sensors designed to double the lighting level when movement is sensed.\u00a0 This will increase safety by highlighting movement at night and improve the color of the lighting.\u00a0 Check out the mock-up in the D2 parking lot behind the R building or by the WeCar on the ground floor of the parking garage.<\/p>\n<p>Read previous posts on this project:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/08\/15\/bc-awarded-815000-energy-efficiency-grant\/\">BC Awarded $815,000 Energy Efficiency Grant<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/06\/25\/2592\/\">July 4th Marks Lighting Retrofit Kickoff<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2012\/01\/25\/lighting-retrofits\/\">Lighting Retrofits Proposed for Main Campus<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are about half-way through lighting retrofit that will reduce electricity consumption an impressive 17%.\u00a0 The lighting retrofit is funded in part by a Department of Commerce Grant and incentives from Puget Sound Energy and will save the college $136,000 per year.
