Training at BC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bellevue College hosted the Environmental Priorities Coalitions Legislative Workshop on Saturday, January 12<sup>th<\/sup>. Over 200 BC students, faculty, staff and residents of the Puget Sound region attended, where they learned about current issues in the environment and what can be done to address them.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to learn more about these legislative priorities, contact <a href=\"mailto:magenta.loera@bellevuecollege.edu\">Magenta Loera<\/a>, Sustainability Advocate for students at Bellevue College. She will be organizing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lobby Day &#8211; February 19th with the <a href=\"http:\/\/environmentalpriorities.org\/\">Environmental Priorities Coalition<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Educational outreach to classrooms;<\/li>\n<li>Letter-writing and postcard campaigns on-campus.<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Three issues were placed in focus at the event. All are different, but each responds to the values of families and the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Toxic-Free Kids and Families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This commonsense legislation will remove unnecessary flame retardants from children&#8217;s products and furniture in our homes and prevent chemicals identified by the state as a concern for kids health from being used as replacements. Learn more about legislative priorities here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clean Energy Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This priority would drive Washington forward by developing a climate policy that accelerates clean energy investment and helps free consumers from the economic dead weight of fossil fuel dependence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservation Works<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Priority promotes fiscally-responsible projects that benefit the entire state by protecting Puget Sound, reducing toxic runoff, expanding recreation opportunities, and improving habitat and forest health.
