Campus Colleagues:<\/span><\/div>\n
Recently our institution, Bellevue College, has joined the <\/span>Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)<\/span><\/a>. AASHE is an organization of colleges and universities that are working to advance sustainability in higher education. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>You can see our school\u2019s name on AASHE\u2019s <\/span>list of campus members<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
If everyone has not heard of AASHE, it is a non-profit, member-based organization associated with colleges, universities, businesses, non-profits,\u00a0government agencies, K-12 schools all over the world working to create a sustainable future through higher education.\u00a0AASHE leads this sustainability transformation by providing resources, professional development, and support networks which enables colleges and universities to model and advance sustainability in everything they do, from governance and operations to education and research. <\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
I\u2019m writing to let you know about some of the benefits of AASHE membership. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>First, AASHE membership covers all staff and faculties on campus.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>As members, we all have access to AASHE\u2019s online resources and opportunities for networking, information sharing, collaboration, and professional development. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Here are more details about AASHE\u2019s member benefits, services and programs:<\/span><\/div>\n
Individual Member Accounts<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/span>Anyone at our institution can create their own account to access member-only pages on AASHE\u2019s website and receive member discounts.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>To create an individual account, go to <\/span>create member account<\/span><\/a> and complete the user profile using your campus email address. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>After you receive your password by email, go to the <\/span>login page<\/span><\/a>, enter your email address (username) and new password, and you will have access to all locked resources. Email <\/span>webmaster@aashe.org<\/span><\/a> if you have any difficulty with this process. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
AASHE Newsletters<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\nWe can subscribe to any AASHE newsletters.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>AASHE Bulletin<\/em><\/span> is a weekly e-newsletter with the latest campus sustainability news, resources, opportunities, and events.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>AASHE Events<\/em><\/span> notifies you about AASHE\u2019s annual conference, workshop, webinars and other AASHE-hosted events.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>AASHE Announcements <\/em><\/span>contains updates on important organizational news. <\/span>STARS Update<\/em><\/span> keeps you current on activities related to the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System program.<\/span><\/div>\n
Online Resources<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>AASHE\u2019s online Resource Center includes assessment tools, policy and program databases, best practices, campus profiles, how-to guides, reports, discussion forums, and other resources. Many of these are member-only so you\u2019ll need an individual member account to access them (see above).<\/span><\/div>\n
Professional Development<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>AASHE holds or co-sponsors workshops, webinars and conference calls throughout the year, plus an <\/span>annual conference<\/span><\/a>that brings together every sector of higher education as well as business, government, and non-profit participants. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>These events offer opportunities to connect with our colleagues at regional, national, and international levels to share resources. As members we receive discounts on all AASHE events.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Check the <\/span>AASHE calendar<\/span><\/a> for upcoming events. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Product and Service Discounts<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\nAASHE business and non-profit members offer occasional product and service discounts for AASHE members. To access the list of discount offers, you must have an individual member account (see above).<\/span><\/div>\n
STARS Registration Discount<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/span>As a member, our institution receives a reduced fee for participating in AASHE’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a standardized, self-administered assessment tool for campuses to benchmark their sustainability progress and compare with others. <\/span><\/div>\n
Publicity and Recognition<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>We can <\/span>submit campus sustainability news and job postings<\/span><\/a>to the AASHE Bulletin (be sure to read the <\/span>submission guidelines<\/span><\/a> first).<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The Bulletin informs over 10,000 subscribers about campus sustainability news, resources, and opportunities. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>We can also submit a photo and text for the <\/span>member spotlight<\/span><\/a>, which highlights efforts at individual campuses and is featured on AASHE\u2019s website and Bulletin.<\/span><\/div>\n
Professional Awards<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>Our campus can submit applications for any of AASHE\u2019s awards, including the Campus Sustainability Case Study Award, Student Sustainability Leadership Award, and Student Sustainability Research Award.<\/span><\/div>\n
Sustainability Officers Directory<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>AASHE maintains an online directory of campus sustainability\/environmental officers to enable us to find and reach out to colleagues doing similar work at other institutions.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a member-only resource, so you\u2019ll need an individual account to access it (see above).<\/span><\/div>\n
Discussion Forums<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\nAnyone with an individual website account can participate in AASHE\u2019s Campus Sustainability Discussion Forums (read the <\/span>FAQs and Instructions<\/span><\/a> first). The aim of the forums is to provide a central place for sharing ideas and best practices and for finding answers to questions on topics related to sustainability and higher education. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s a great way to gain knowledge from our peers that will help advance our sustainability work.<\/span><\/div>\n
AASHE Staff Blog<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>AASHE\u2019s \u201cCampus Sustainability Perspectives\u201d blog features opinions and reports by staff and guests related to campus sustainability. You can read the blog, comment on posts, and request to submit your own items as a guest blogger. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There is also a chronological <\/span>archive page<\/span><\/a> and a <\/span>comprehensive list of blogs<\/span><\/a> that are related to campus sustainability.<\/span><\/div>\n
AASHE Member Logo<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\nWe can post<\/span> the \u201cAASHE Member\u201d logo on our website to emphasize our commitment to sustainability. The logo may also be used on any signage, reports, brochures, and publicity or display materials.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Be sure to read the <\/span>usage guidelines<\/span><\/a> first.<\/span><\/div>\n
Governance, Councils, Committees<\/strong><\/span><\/a>
\n<\/strong><\/span>Anyone from our campus can participate on AASHE\u2019s committees, councils, working groups, and board. <\/span><\/div>\n
