{"id":635,"date":"2011-09-29T21:39:54","date_gmt":"2011-09-30T04:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/?p=635"},"modified":"2011-09-29T21:39:54","modified_gmt":"2011-09-30T04:39:54","slug":"new-sustainability-curriculum-manager-on-campus-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/sustainability\/2011\/09\/29\/new-sustainability-curriculum-manager-on-campus-2\/","title":{"rendered":"New Sustainability Curriculum Manager on Campus!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">Hello Everyone, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself to you as Bellevue College\u2019s first Sustainability Curriculum Manager! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">This new position was approved and funded by the Student Environmental Sustainability Fee (SESF) committee. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">My job is to promote and advocate for the infusion of sustainability into the college curriculum.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">I will be working with faculty, students, the Sustainability Coordinator Deric Gruen, the SESF Committee, the ASG Board, and the Environmental Advisory Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">My goals this year are to research current efforts and best practices in sustainability curriculum and to develop sustainability curriculum outreach and education programs for faculty.\u00a0 There are many college campuses throughout the nation that will serve as mentors in our process to \u201cgreen-up\u201d our campus-wide class curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">While I am new to this position since this summer, I am not new to the campus.\u00a0 In 2002, I was hired as a part-time instructor in the Interior Design Department.\u00a0 Since then, I have taught a variety of courses and I love my job as an interior designer and educator!\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">A spark ignited in me when I first discovered LEED-Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a voluntary building rating system established by the U.S. Green Building Council.\u00a0 By the way, the new Science \u201cS\u201d Building on our campus is rated LEED Silver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">Many of my students were asking for instruction about green design and I thought about how I can integrate sustainable design into my practice and instruction.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0After teaching a few special topics classes, I decided to develop the Green Sustainable Design Certificate Program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Cambria\">The Sustainable Design Certificate is a three class series that offers students instruction about global, national, local sustainability issues, and work that is happening to improve our built environment.\u00a0 You do not have to be an interior design major to take these classes.\u00a0 If you are a business major, you can choose to take these courses as part of the Associate in Arts in Sustainable Business Practices.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Everyone, It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself to you as Bellevue College\u2019s first Sustainability Curriculum Manager!
