{"id":6,"date":"2015-01-16T14:14:40","date_gmt":"2015-01-16T22:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/mayflower-template-full\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2025-07-21T13:13:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:13:20","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/titleix\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Title IX?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-mayflower-blocks-lead lead\">&#8220;<em>No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.<\/em>&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. \u00a7 1681) is a federal statute that prohibits discrimination, harassment, and retaliation on the basis of sex in educational programs that receive federal funds. Title IX is most commonly associated with sex-based discrimination in sports and is credited with advancing participation of women in athletics. However, the scope of Title IX is much broader. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in all college programs, activities, and employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Title IX protection from discrimination extends to faculty, staff and students. It covers a wide array of sex-based discrimination, including such things as: sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions. The only confidential resource on campus for students is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/counseling\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/counseling\/\">Counseling Center<\/a>.
