About Stefanie

Stefanie Ramos Bierge is a linguist specializing in morphosyntax, language documentation, and the Uto-Aztecan languages of Mexico, with a particular focus on Wixárika (Huichol). She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Colorado Boulder and has over a decade of experience in language research, teaching, and community engagement.

Her work bridges linguistics, anthropology, and ethnobotany through Indigenous community collaboration, with a commitment to language equity and data sovereignty. Most recently, she served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the New York Botanical Garden, where she co-led a federally funded initiative to understand the interface between language and ecological knowledge in Wixárika communities.

Her research interests include morphosyntax, language documentation and description, ritual language, environmental linguistics, language revitalization, and language teaching.
