Student Art Walk (PRIZES!), Terrance Hayes, and Earth Week!

As you may know, Earth Week is fast approaching (April 17th- 22nd!) and Bellevue College has a LOT going on. The Office of Sustainability has been hard at work putting together a series of workshops, documentaries, and speakers around the theme Rise up! Be the Change! Keep a look out for the full poster and schedule during Spring break. We are also collaborating with different groups and departments on campus to share the love of their events and their hard work, with special events during Earth Week!

The Bellevue College Student Art Walk

Student Art Walk-small

All are invited to participate in the Bellevue College Student Art Walk! Our mission is to promote the understanding that art is central to culture and society, encouraging the enrichment of our campus through the artistic achievements of our students, faculty and staff. Our vision is to position Bellevue College as an engaging cultural hub in which academics in all disciplines foster cultural and social understandings through creative synergy.

New for this year, the Art Walk is accepting submissions for a Earth Week Showcase after a talk by Terrance Hayes on Thursday April 20th. Students submitting work that reflects themes of sustainability and social justice or showcases recycled or other sustainability-related materials can opt in to win a Green Art Supplies Gift Pack valued at $50 and a chance showcase their art.

For more information and rules for submissions, check out the Student Art Walk website. All art submissions due by April 1st! Check out the poster here: Student Art Walk Poster

Terrance Hayes, Social Justice for Black Lives

Terrance Hayes

Social justice and sustainability are synonymous. In order to be sustainable, you need to care not only for the planet, but also for people.

We are really excited that a group of amazing staff and faculty from the Black Student Union, Business Leadership Community, Office of the President, Office of Pluralism and Equity, and Faculty Commons have been able to bring in Terrance Hayes to our campus, who will give an empowering and educational talk to our community.

Click here for the Terrance Hayes Event Poster . The student session is at 11:30 am on Thursday April 20th in Carlson Theatre, staff and faculty session at 1:30 pm in Carlson Theatre, and the community lecture at 5:00 pm in N201.
