Winnie Li has been a full time faculty at Bellevue College since 2007, teaching in the Computer Science Transfer and Business Administration Programs. She is full time faculty in the BAS Data Management & Analysis program. She has a MS in Statistics from California State University East Bay and a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from University of California Davis. Before joining BC, she worked in multiple roles in Clearwire and Microsoft.

Kyle Barber

Kyle Barber is tenured faculty and the program chair of both the Marketing and Digital Media Arts departments.  Before teaching he worked in New York City at some of the top advertising firms such as McCann, Wunderman, Razorfish, Draft, and Starcom Mediavest  He focused much of his career helping Fortune 500 corporations think about data capture, measurement, and demonstrating performance.  These clients included Coca-Cola, MasterCard, L’Oreal, Microsoft, Verizon, T-Mobile, Nestle, General Mills, and the many brands of Procter & Gamble.  Kyle directs the school’s national champion DECA team and is always looking for new ways for students to take what they learn in their classes and starting to apply it to real world scenarios, so they have a leg up on the competition.

Charlene Cheng is a full-time faculty member of Data Management & Analysis at Bellevue College. She graduated from UC Berkeley, double major in Computer Science and Data Science. Prior to teaching, she worked at Microsoft for more than 3 years. By utilizing a large set of data sources and applying analytical methods, she contributed to the continuous improvement of Microsoft and delivered a bunch of actionable recommendations on business approaches. She is also expert in the field of large-scale machine learning and natural language processing.

Frank Hatstat holds an Associate Degree in Science and Engineering from Henry Ford College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, an MBA from City University, and a Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law. He feels privileged to have had diverse educational opportunities and a wide range of professional experiences. His roles have included entrepreneur, manager, corporate trainer, state director within a national business program, air traffic control specialist and instructor, consultant with a national consulting firm, associate dean, and academic program chair, in addition to legal and appellate work. Although Frank is passionate about business and law, he finds his greatest joy in helping people learn and grow through education. In his free time, Frank enjoys flying as a licensed pilot, photography, and other outdoor activities like biking and fishing.

Stephanie Hurst is a tenured Full Professor at Bellevue College.  She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Speech Communication from California State University Long Beach.  Stephanie began teaching at Bellevue College in 2003 having previously taught at Palm Beach Community College and CSULB.  Courses she has taught include Intercultural Communication, Advanced Communication in Business and Technology, Communication in a Diverse Workplace, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, and Introduction to Communication.  Stephanie’s teaching philosophy incorporates the practical application of scholarly theory in an effort to improve students’ lives.  In addition to teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, her dog, her cat, her chickens, practicing yoga, cooking, hiking, or taking in a Sounders game.

Liliana Lawrence has been an Economics Instructor at Bellevue College since 2009. She was born on the island of Java, the daughter of an Indonesian mother, and a father of Singaporean-descent. After she finished her master’s degree in Singapore, she did economic and business research with McKinsey & Company, eventually moving to New York in 1999 to work for the United Nations Headquarters in the field of Economic Development. Two years later, she decided to do a further study on Ph.D. in Economics in New York City. Although she began teaching in 2003 at Brooklyn College in New York, she felt the need for open space and greenery, so she moved to Seattle. While she’s not teaching or preparing classes, before or after, she enjoys gardening, walking, and cooking. She also loves reading, movies, nature programs, and historically based dramas or documentaries.

Art Lovestedt holds a M.S. in Computer Systems with an emphasis in Technology Management, and a B.A. in Business Administration with emphases in Organizational Behavior and Marketing from the University of Washington. He has been an instructor at Bellevue College since 2007. He enjoys learning from his students each quarter while passing along his own experiences from over two decades working as a Chief Information Officer (CIO). Five previous companies have gone public or been purchased by a public company during or just after his tenure. Areas of expertise include strategic planning, process automation and efficiency, information system design and management, team building, marketing integration and business development. Since 2010 Art has been a strategic consultant, and currently serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) to several organizations.

Sathya Madhusudhanan

Sathya Madhusudhanan has been an Assistant Adjunct faculty in the BAS Data Management & Analysis program at Bellevue College since September 2024. She majors in the Computer Science subjects. She has a doctorate from Anna University, India in the field of Data Science.  She is also an online adjunct faculty at Westcliff University. She has published a few research articles in a few reputed International Journals.

Pete Ophoven has been working in IT for over 25 years, finding great pleasure in teaching at Bellevue College. His students have gained insight from what he calls “the secret life of an IT Professional,” a career that has included everything from installing networks, running cable, and building machines for a computer store, to starting his own company, “The Computer Sleuth.” He recently celebrated his ten-year anniversary as the IT Director for Abbott Construction, a $150,000,000-a-year commercial general contractor headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Los Angeles, Portland, and Tacoma. His core value is that IT/Technology isn’t about the electrons and the voltmeter but the people. He genuinely loves finding solutions, solving problems, and showing people how to accomplish things better and faster with technology.

William Payne is the chair of the Bellevue College Philosophy Department where he has been teaching for over 18 years. He holds a BA and an MA in Philosophy from Arizona State University and a PhD in philosophy from UC Davis. He is obviously a cat lover. When not reading, writing or teaching philosophy, he is most likely out on a long bike ride, working in the garden, or cooking.

Randal Root

Randal Root is a senior consultant specializing in Microsoft SQL Server, .Net web applications, and technical education. He has worked in the industry since the 1980s, with experience in both network and database administration. He currently consults on creating databases, analyzing and reporting data, and creating personalized training solutions for small to mid-size companies. Randal has been teaching BI and .Net programing for Bellevue College, the University of Washington, and other institutions of higher learning for almost twenty years. He has also authored the books A Tester’s Guide to .NET Programming (Apress) and Pro SQL Server 2012 BI Solutions (Apress), and earned several Microsoft professional certifications including MCSE, MCP+I, MCTS, MCDBA, and MCAD.

Ted Spence

Ted Spence joined Bellevue College in 2019, teaching data analytics and computer science related classes. His career has spanned many decades and different industries, from small startups like EEDAR to large enterprises like Facebook and Vivendi Universal. His areas of expertise include marketing analytics, API design, database design and management, as well as programming in a variety of languages.  He holds a BA in Philosophy from California State University, Fullerton, and lives in West Seattle with his wife and daughter.  You can occasionally see him biking around Alki whenever the weather permits.

Pratima Suneel

Pratima Suneel has been at Bellevue College since April 2017, teaching both in the Data Management & Analysis program and the Computer Science department. Her areas of focus are Business Intelligence, Relational Database Design, Programming and System Analysis and Design. In addition, she mentors student teams working with their sponsors on Capstone projects. Prior to teaching, she worked in the software industry as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). Her experience includes working at both technology leaders like Microsoft and startups like B-Square and Talyst, which have exposed her to different areas of software development. She has an MS in Chemistry, a certificate degree in C/C++ programming and possess a strong knowledge in Business Intelligence. She is a certified Scrum Product Owner by Scrum Alliance.
