The core team is expanding the website redesign to department sites. To ensure design consistency, they are considering working with their previous vendor before opening bids. Due to the large number of sites, the rollout will take time, and a launch date is yet to be set.
Needs Assessment
The website redesign core team spent the early part of the summer meeting with stakeholders and gathering requirements for the next phase of the project: expanding the homepage’s recent redesign to the remaining, division and department-level sites. A Qualtrics survey was sent out to about 100 site owners and managers from around campus to in an effort to field their needs and address issues pertaining to the current state of their respective site. We had a 75% response rate to the survey, the results of which are under ongoing review.
Responses were tabulated alongside the requirements cited by two of our sub-committees: the Web Design team and the Marketing & Community Development team. Data was then condensed into its finer points and coupled with the college’s accessibility standard, WCAG 2.0 AA. In an effort to maintain the consistency of the site’s design, and to mitigate the need for unnecessary exploration, we’re providing the vendor we partnered with during the core site’s redesign the opportunity to offer an estimate for the work involved prior to putting it out for bid.
Next Steps
The core team will continue to address the current needs of our department-level stakeholders while simultaneously laying the foundation for what’s the come, specifically in terms of how work will be communicated and what managers can expect in the year ahead. We intend on identifying a vendor to partner with over the next month, and anticipate the planning phase to begin in early Fall. Given the project’s infancy, a launch window has yet to be determined, but the sheer number of sites up for the redesign (100+) will likely require much more time than what was experienced during the core site update.
As always, we are grateful for the patience and support provided us by the entire campus. Without your feedback and insight we’d not have gotten as far as we are.
