Message from SAMI Director:

The situation regarding COVID-19 is changing almost daily. As of writing this message (March 12), Bellevue College has cancelled in-person classes, opting for all classes to go online. We anticipate being able to start our Spring 2020 quarter at the college, but we need to keep our operations responsive to the situation.

All K12 SAMI hands-on, minds-on programs (Science Summer Camp, Family Science, and Science Saturdays) are suspended until Bellevue College returns to normal operations. This includes registrations for Science Summer Camp.

These programs encourage medium-sized groups to come together during a public health crisis, which gives the COVID-19 virus to spread to new communities. As a former infectious disease researcher and current SAMI Director, I feel strongly that our office adhere to recommendations made by King County Public Health and Washington’s governor Jay Inslee.

Postponing our registrations and programming allows us to be firm in our commitments to our community and responsive to the unprecedented public health issues at hand. We are looking forward to providing the high quality programing you have come to expect from us in the near future.

Please return here for updates on when registration will be opening for this and other SAMI programs.

If you have questions or concerns, please email me directly at jenn.pang@bellevuecollege.edu.

The Science and Math Institute (SAMI) at Bellevue College serves our diverse community by developing and leading engaging, innovative science and math programs.

By creating opportunities to inspire scientific discovery and think critically, we encourage our community to connect to science in their everyday lives and consider the importance and impact of science- and math-related careers.

Take a look around. We have programs for 5-8th grade students, host the regional science and engineering fair for high school students, and have a variety of family and community events. As always, you can contact us at sami@bellevuecollege.edu.
