BC Earns Eastside Green Business Award

Bellevue College took part in the 2012 Eastside Green Business Challenge and was recognized with the “Educating the Masses” Award. This Challenge was created by the Eastside Sustainable Business Alliance, a group of Eastside businesses of varying sizes that are working towards sustainable practices and community engagement. Putting sustainability as utmost important to Eastside businesses, the challenge provided businesses with the resources to truly work towards sustainable practices. From free energy audits from Cascade Power Group to assistance in green purchasing from Office Depot, businesses had the resources necessary to asses current practices and make measurable changes in areas such as energy, water, waste, and human resources.

Bellevue College was recognized for our work in Transportation. Our efforts to reduce single occupancy vehicles, as well as our work with Metro and transit advocacy, have helped reduce our collective carbon footprint. We are also a very important institution to be implementing sustainability practices because we are training the leaders of tomorrow. Community colleges can have a large impact on the culture of the surrounding community, and the ESBA recognized our work in being leaders in sustainability.

Other businesses recognized include Pagliacci’s Pizza, GIY Construction, Puget Sound Energy, among others. These businesses are all working towards a common goal: economic sustainability and positive community impact.
