Volunteer Opportunities: Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative

pedestrian and bike initiative

Bellevue supports walking and biking as safe, healthy and attractive alternatives to driving. The Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation Plan articulates a shared vision of a desirable future that remains relevant today. The Pedestrian & Bicycle Implementation Initiative (PBII) is a complement of action-oriented efforts that will advance project designs and programs identified in the Ped-Bike Plan to make Bellevue a great place to walk and bike.

The City of Bellevue is looking for volunteers interested in supporting their Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative efforts.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative Journalist

  • Conduct interviews with local residents, friends, and family about walking and bicycling in Bellevue. Have them fill out a waiver. **
  • Take pictures of your interviewees with walking and biking related messages, riding their bikes, etc.
  • Record a sound clip of the interview, then transcribe it. **
  • Save all files into one folder, and submit to the City of Bellevue.

**You can volunteer to interview, transcribe, or both! Please indicate in your submission which role you would like to do.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative Auditor

  • Using the City of Bellevue Wikimap [http://wikimapping.com/wikimap/bellevuewa.html] for the PBII, audit currently marked unsafe conditions for walking and biking.
  • Observe pedestrian and bicycle behaviors. Take notes on pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle interactions, how the issue can be improved, etc.
  • Take pictures of the issues found.
  • Upload to the Wikimap for the PBII for that currently marked condition. Add your notes in the comments section. Add any additional notes on how the issue can be improved.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative Promoter

  • Publicize the WikiMap survey by handing out flyers at transit centers and bus stops.
  • Speak about the Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative and direct people to participate in the online survey.
  • Encourage residents, family, and friends to use alternative transportation, walk, and bike around Bellevue.

To volunteer for any of the above roles, send a brief email detailing which role you are interested in, your name, and contact information to McKayla Dunfey, Eastside Policy and Government Affairs Coordinator, mckaylad@cascade.org. Be sure to include in the subject line “Pedestrian and Bicycle Implementation Initiative Volunteer”. These roles are available and actively looking for volunteers unless otherwise indicated.
