Did you know that paper towels used to dry hands can be composted? Our paper towel composting program reduces greenhouse gas emissions by taking paper towels out of the landfill and instead putting them into the compost stream where they can be turned into nutrient rich soil amendment.
How it works
Select bathrooms on campus contain a compost bin in order to give people the option of diverting their paper towels from the landfill. IMPORTANT: Please only place paper towels used to dry hands in the compost bins. Paper towels contaminated with cleaning fluids or bodily fluids (e.g. used to blow nose) should be placed in the landfill bin and not the compost.
Where can I find paper towel composting on campus?
All of North Campus bathrooms have paper towel composting along with the common area bathrooms of Student Housing.
