About Us

The XR Lab provides educational software for interactive learning experiences. We provide VR display devices and we also collaborate with faculty to develop immersive learning applications.

The XR Lab provides educational software to deliver high-quality interactive learning experiences. We have over 20 state-of-the-art virtual reality display devices, we develop immersive learning experiences that can be embedded to Canvas, and we have a podcast studio that also serves as an animation lab. We can also provide an open-source networked video conference classroom space that allows students to experience presenters from all over the world, and shared learning experiences with participating educational institutions.

“One of the things I love about the XR Lab is that it gives students access to technologies they might not otherwise have the opportunity to explore.”

The XR Lab started in 2017 with a vision provided by college administration, James Riggall, a Fulbright Scholar from Australia, and Bruce Wolcott, the XR Faculty Emeritus. The XR Lab is now part of Interactive eLearning, and we collaborate to support immersive and interactive learning for students and faculty.

Currently leadership is provided by Maria Sanchez the XR Faculty Lead along with our Director Sukirti Ranade, and Associate Directors Ron Austin and Betsy Zhart Geib.

We have hosted many thousands of students, faculty, and community members for a variety of events. In 2023 we received a National Science Foundation grant with an objective to build the Northwest XR EDU Network (NWXR EDIU) and to serve as an XR hub for colleges throughout the Pacific Northwest.
