Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What programming language is used in the Fundamental of Computer Science classes (CS 210 & CS 211)?

Java is used in CS 210 and CS 211.

I’m interested in applying to the BS in Computer Science program, but am unsure if the courses I’ve completed at another college meet the admissions prerequisites or not. What should I do?

View the college’s course equivalencies to find out how courses completed at another will transfer to Bellevue College. If you cannot find the course you took, it often means that Bellevue College has not reviewed that course yet. In that case, you can email cs@bellevuecollege.edu with a brief description of the course in question, an unofficial transcript that shows the grade you earned, and a copy of the course syllabus. The progam will review the course and give you a preliminary/unofficial idea of whether it counts toward the program prerequisites.

In order to transfer the credits and have it applied to a degree at Bellevue College, students will need to submit a transfer credit evaluation following Steps #3–5 on the How to Transfer to Bellevue College page. The college’s Evaluation Office will make an official review of the course and update the equivalency database for future students.

I need a copy of a CS course syllabus. Who should I contact?

Email cs@bellevuecollege.edu to request a syllabus. Please include the following details in your message:

  • Course you’re requesting a syllabus for (e.g., CS 210, CS 300)
  • Quarter the course was/is offered
  • Instructor’s name (if known)
  • Date you need the syllabus by (if applicable)

If you completed the course at Bellevue College within the past 2 years, please check your Canvas course page first, as the syllabus may still be available there. If not, you’re welcome to submit a request to the department.

I’m interested in partnering with the CS program to plan an event, workshop, or other opportunity for students. What should I do?

Email cs@bellevuecollege.edu with a brief description of your proposed event or partnership idea.

I have an issue or concern about a CS course. Who should I talk to?

Start by contacting your instructor to discuss the concern directly. If the issue isn’t resolved, reach out to the Computer Science Program Chair.

I need to contact a CS faculty member who no longer works at the college. What can I do?

First, try a simple online search (e.g. “[Name] Bellevue College CS”, LinkedIn, Google Scholar) to see if they maintain a public contact (e.g. professional email). If you can’t find a current contact, email cs@bellevuecollege.edu with your request and we will do our best to assist you.

Because of privacy policies, the department might not have up-to-date contact details for former employees. However, if appropriate, the program can sometimes forward your message or suggest alternate ways to reach them.

I’d like to request a school visit/classroom presentation/attendance at a tabling event so students can learn more about the Computer Science program at Bellevue College. How do I arrange that?

Please email cs@bellevuecollege.edu with details about your event (date, time, location, audience). The program manager will coordinate to arrange a representative or materials for your event.
