Biography:

Dr. Torsten Grabs earned his PhD in Computer Science from ETH Zurich in Switzerland and has since spent more than two decades in the software industry. Torsten began his career as a software engineer and later transitioned into product management, working at companies including Microsoft, Amazon, and most recently, Snowflake.

With a background in databases by education and training, Torsten’s work has focused on a wide range of database technologies—from on-premises systems such as Microsoft SQL Server to large-scale, cloud-based data processing platforms like Snowflake. At Snowflake, he helped build and grow the company’s data engineering, data lake, and data science businesses.

Alongside his industry career, Torsten always enjoyed teaching computer science. He has served as a lecturer at ETH Zurich and as adjunct faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle. Torsten is passionate about working with the next generation of computer scientists, technology leaders, and innovators, as well as helping startup companies in tech grow and scale.

Outside of work, Torsten enjoys making music and spending time outdoors—usually skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer.
