Biography:

I’m Carol Anderson and I have been teaching fulltime at Bellevue College since 2007. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Washington after completing my AAS degree at Edmonds Community College. From there, I earned my Master’s in Teaching from the University of Washington’s College of Education, and, after that, my Master of Science in Psychology (Mental Health Counseling) from Western Washington University.

Before teaching at BC, I taught as an adjunct up and down I5 at Edmonds CC, Everett CC, and Shoreline CC. Most often, I teach General Psychology, Social Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. Off and on, I teach Positive Psychology, Theories of Personality, and Human Sexuality.

I did not take the traditional route to get where I am today. In fact, I dropped out of high school (but did return to get my diploma). After graduating HS, I spent time working (at a restaurant inn in my hometown of Juneau, Alaska) before going to a Voc-Tech institute in Tacoma where I learned the trade of carpentry. I spent almost a decade in the wood working field, first building custom hardwood circular and spiral staircases before moving into custom wood windows where I spent most of my time. There, I soon became a shop foreman before becoming the lead in the “specials” department where I got to build the unusual (including bays, bows, eyebrow, ellipticals, and so on). As rewarding (and challenging) it was to create functional art out of wood, I grew restless and decided to go to college –I’d worked with my hands for so long, I wanted to work more with my mind. I started out at Edmonds Community College where I became a tutor and teaching assistant for the Psychology department. In doing so, I learned that I wanted to be a teacher and thus, began my trip here. And boy, did I enjoy the ride. If you ever feel you are too old or too young, too this or too that, in order to be able to do the things you want, let’s talk!

When I’m not teaching or doing teacher stuff, I enjoy spending time outdoors (am outdoor concert venue is the best!), going to comic-cons, and hanging out with family and friends. I have a cat named Mister Pickles and he is awesome.
