
At MCS, we are dedicated to creating spaces that uplift, empower, and support our student community. Over the past quarter, we’ve hosted impactful events, fostered meaningful connections, and celebrated student achievements. As we reflect on these milestones, we also look forward to new opportunities to engage, learn, and grow together.
Event Highlights
This past quarter, MCS programs (Umoja, Puente, and LGBTQ+ Resource Center) hosted or collaborated on 8 impactful events, including:
- Candlelight Vigil for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR)
- A hip-hop and jazz pop-up class
- Seattle Opera Jubilee
- A trip to MoPOP (Museum of Pop Culture)
- Being an Accomplice to Queer & Trans* Liberation” (Equity PD Day Workshop)
- Meet the Candidates Event (Hosted by BLC, BSU, Black Students Affinity Coordinator)
- Bowling Night at Bowlero South Seattle (Hosted by Black Students Affinity Coordinator and Umoja).
- Umoja Welcome Ceremony and Orientation
These events reached 221 participants, with an additional 111 individuals joining our resource list or engaging with events despite not being directly affiliated with MCS programs.
Impact in Action:
Feedback from attendees has been truly inspiring. One participant shared:
“Thank you for your work, your spirit, and the gift you gave all of us through this event. I don’t believe a single person left the same as they entered. That is impact!!”
When students were asked, “In what ways have Puente Program resources, services, and/or events been helpful to you?”, they shared:
- “Made me feel more included.”
- “When I needed help, they were always there to support me. The help they provided was incredibly impactful.”
When students were asked, “What is one thing you learned about yourself this quarter?”, they responded:
- “I’m more capable than I thought.”
- “One thing I learned about myself this quarter is that when given the right resources and support, it boosts my productivity and efficiency.”
Student Success and Support
- 62 Umoja Scholars achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher—an incredible testament to their hard work and resilience.
- We welcomed 6 Student Affinity Coordinators to provide tailored support for students and strengthen our programs’ impact.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue building on this momentum and fostering a supportive, inclusive community. We remain committed to creating meaningful opportunities for learning, reflection, and action.
