Purpose
Bellevue College campus posting locations for materials are reserved primarily for the use of students, faculty, and staff to inform the campus community about college-related programs and activities. Some space for materials will be made available for posting by off-campus groups, individuals, or organizations, including commercial enterprises for promoting activities and/or opportunities in the community or at the college per the following procedures.
Procedures
General Procedures for all Posted Materials
- All posted materials must be approved and date-stamped at the student engagement desk (C212) before posting. Posted materials not bearing a legitimate date stamp may be removed.
- Student organizations should include the name and logo (if applicable) of their organization with contact information, the relevant EEO statement and the ASGBC logo on posted materials (if applicable).
- Posted materials by official Bellevue College departments must also include the relevant EEO statement and follow brand guidelines as found in the college’s Publication and Style Guide.
- Housing – Approved posting can be submitted to Housing Office for Housing staff to post in accordance with Housing posting procedures.
- Individuals or groups posting materials on campus are responsible for removing it in a timely fashion. Posted materials are normally placed two to three weeks prior to an event and removed immediately after the event. Exceptions may be granted for certain Bellevue College activities and announcements.
- Any posted materials not removed by the individual or group may be taken down by campus staff after the announced event or one month after the approval date-stamp, whichever is earliest.
- Bellevue College staff will remove posted materials that are causing damage to the buildings or grounds.
- Posted materials that are torn, damaged, or covering another posting will be removed and discarded.
- All posted materials must bear some identification of the organization or individual publishing, sponsoring, or distributing it. No anonymous materials may be posted on the Bellevue College campus. College staff will immediately remove and discard any anonymous materials.
- If posted material is in a language other than English, an English translation must be included or posted alongside.
- Distribution of materials by placing the materials on motor vehicles parked on Bellevue College property is prohibited.
- Violators of these procedures may be responsible for the cost of cleaning and/or restoration of any facility marred or damaged by the posted materials.
- Student engagement staff will periodically clear outdated material from posting areas. College staff will completely clear posting areas before each fall quarter.
Campus Life, Student, and Staff Activities
- Flyers
- Flyers must meet general procedures for posted materials
- Student, campus life, and staff activities postings are limited to one copy per designated posting area.
- Flyer locations:
- Materials concerning campus life, student, and staff activities may be posted only on the designated posting areas (bulletin boards or kiosks) provided in stairwells and corridors around campus.
- Campus departments control postings for interior office space and classrooms, including windows, doors, and bulletin boards, but space is generally reserved for staff and instructors.
- Interior bulletin board space within the student union in the C building is assigned by the director of student engagement.
- Personal and sale items may be posted in the designated bulletin board space in the student union.
- A-Frames and Yard signs
- A-frames and yard signs used to publicize campus life, student and staff activities must meet all general procedures for posted materials.
- A-frames and yard signs used for wayfinding purposes do not need to meet all general procedures for posted printed materials, but they should follow the campus’ Publication and Style guide.
- A-frames and yard signs must not interfere with egress and motion on campus.
- A-frames and yard signs must be taken down in a timely fashion after the event.
- Banners
- Banners must meet all general procedures for posted materials.
- Location of banner must be approved by student engagement office (C212).
- Digital displays
- Items posted on public digital displays and publicizing campus life, student, and staff activities must meet all general procedures for posted materials.
- Digital display locations:
- Digital display locations will be determined by departments using the displays. Departments will follow posting procedures before posting materials in public areas.
- Leaflets/ Quarter sheets
- o Leaflets and quarter sheets must meet all general procedures for posted materials.
- Leaflets and quarter sheets may not be left on tables or areas outside approved posting areas.
Commercial Promotions or Off-Campus Events
- Posting materials for commercial purposes or to promote off-campus events is limited to posting on designated bulletin boards in the student union. “Commercial purposes” means speech which does no more than propose a commercial transaction.
- Commercial organizations or off-campus groups must submit their materials to the student engagement desk (C212) for content approval and date-stamping. Student engagement staff will post materials on the designated boards.
- All posted materials from commercial, or off-campus groups must bear identification of the organization or individual publishing, sponsoring, or distributing it.
- Advertising of alcohol, weapons and tobacco products is not permitted.
- Posted materials are normally placed two to three weeks prior to a promotion and removed immediately after the promotion.
- Commercial posting is limited to one copy per authorized commercial/off-campus posting area.
- Violations of these provisions may be responsible for the cost of cleaning and/or restoration of any facility marred or damaged by the posting materials and may be prohibited from further use of Bellevue College posting facilities.
Student Union Display Case
- Bellevue College departments, programs, and recognized student organizations may reserve and use the display case in the student union.
- Reservations must be made in writing to the student engagement office at least two weeks before the desired starting date for the display. Reservation forms are available from the student engagement desk (C212). The following information must be provided:
- Desired display date(s)
- Name of Bellevue College department, program or student group
- Name and phone number of contact person
- Who will be responsible for the display case key
- Description of the display contents
- The display case may be reserved for two weeks unless the director of student engagement grants permission for a longer display period.
- The department, program, or student group is expected to remove its display and return the key at least six hours prior to the next group’s reservation time.
- Cancellation of a display case reservation requires 24-hour notice.
- Bellevue College does not endorse or support the content of any display presented in the student union display case.
