Digital Media Arts Summer 2020 Special Classes


DMA 294: Spec. Topics: Digital Texture Painting For 3D – 5 Cr.

Introduces students to fine art principles of texture and color using digital tools for the 3D art pipeline. With a focus on hand painted practices, students will perform texture painting tasks for 3D models in Photoshop, Substance, and 3D editing software. Students will learn how to create completely unique texture maps for 3D models used in games and cinematics. DMA 113 and DMA 102 are recommended prerequisites for this class.

Prerequisite: Previous media enrollment and permission of program chair


DMA 295: Spec. Topics: Dynamic Character Design – 5 Cr.

Design characters that jump off the page! Students will research, develop and design unique characters while gaining mastery of shapes, color theory, expression, back-story and how these impact character design. Explore how to fully develop characters for animation, gaming, graphic novels, etc. Focus on paper-based designs with limited use of digital tools.

Prerequisites: Entry code required. Class is co-taught by Beau Obremski and Craig Jones.


DMA 296: Spec. Topics: Digital Editing – 5 Cr.

Course introduces digital non-linear editing software and its use in post-production in digital media creation. Topics include editing and outputting of video and interactive media content for a variety of delivery platforms. Students analyze story construction for a variety of video genres (documentary, fiction, promotional, etc.) in order to implement different video editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro. Students also practice using audio and color to aid in storytelling.

DMA 297: Spec. Topics: Digital Fine Art Painting – 5 Cr.

Are you interested in applying fine art through a digital medium? In depth explorations in painting atelier style, still life, composition, color theory and lighting will be a large part of this class. Students should feel comfortable in Photoshop before enrolling.
