Per RCW 49.94.010, effective July 1, 2026 BC conducts background checks after a conditional job offer has been made. Depending on the requirements of the position, one or more background checks are conducted on final applicants who are selected to fill full-time, part-time, student or volunteer positions:

Reference checks are used to gain insights about an applicant’s professional history, work ethic, style of working, job performance and ability to carry out certain tasks. Reference check is required for final applicants who are selected to fill all full-time and part-time Instructor and Staff positions.

program.
You might have heard in the news that the federal government is reviewing possible changes to the
program. We understand you might have concerns and questions. Visit the U.S. Department of Education
Federal Student Aid website for the latest information.
If you meet these four requirements, the remaining balance of your qualifying student loans may be
forgiven.
Use the PSLF Help Tool on the Federal Student Aid website to confirm if you are eligible and to submit your
PSLF form(s) annually or as needed. If you have worked for multiple qualifying employers, submit a form for
each employer.

Official personnel files document personnel actions affecting Bellevue College employees. An employee’s personnel records may include hiring confirmation or acceptance letter, employment contracts, job or compensation changes, corrective action documentations, payroll records, and more per RCW 49.12.240.
Current employees may request to review their personnel file by emailing hr@bellevuecollege.edu. An HR staff will contact the employee to schedule an appointment. Personnel files are reviewed in the HR Office with an HR staff member present.
Former employees who separated from the college within the last 12 months may use the same request as current employee. You must present valid photo identification at the start of the meeting.
Employees who separated longer than the last 12 months can submit a request through Public Records.
Third party requests for personnel records must be directed to Public Records.
Employees can request that information in their personnel file be corrected or removed.
Employees cannot add, remove, or change documents in their own personnel file. Only HR staff can make these changes.
As a state agency, we are subject to the provisions of the Washington state public disclosure laws (RCW 42.56) governing access to public records and will respond accordingly. There may be exemptions to disclosure that may prohibit the college from releasing certain documents. The College will provide a brief explanation for any exemption to disclosure.
