HAVEN / Funeral Ceremony Center
Located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, this community center has vibrant communal spaces where people can discover and experience new places encouraging social interaction. Design qualifiers that define this unique space are free flowing, intersection and enclosure and exposure. There are several types of spaces that encourage public interaction such as a main social space for large performances, an art gallery to celebrate creativity, retail to showcase local brands, as well as a restaurant and café for the community.
We all have different perceptions of reality. Everyone has a world of their own, but we are all one, living in parallel to each other. We are each an individual that has transparent walls as we create our own world from others. It is important to have the connection between one space to another – the belief that nothing is truly separated. My intent is to create a live-work space, a lifestyle that is multi-purposeful, using the design qualifiers of projective geometry, presence and absence, and shifting. The flex space accommodates working spaces for young entrepreneurs and start-ups, residential living, and flexible community spaces that encourage interaction with the intention of creating a relationship between static and dynamic.
