English Language Acquisition (ELA)

Learn English for college, career, and community.

Intake for Fall quarter is now closed. Please visit the ELA Website for updates regarding Winter Quarter 2027.

  • ELA classes are for students who:
    • live in Washington State
    • are 18 or older
    • want to learn English for college, job, and community goals.
  • ELA classes are not for:
    • people with foreign or tourist visas (J-1, F-1, M-1, B-1 or B-2).
    • Tourists and International students can contact the English Language Institute: ELI Website

English language classes help students learn English for their college and job goals.

  • ELA has day classes and evening classes.
  • Most classes are hybrid, so they meet in-person and online.
  • Classes teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced English to students whose first language is not English.
  • See the class schedule online, Bellevue College. For Academic Organization, choose English Language Acquisition. 

Tuition is $25 per quarter for the English Language Acquisition (ELA) program.

3 ways to pay:

  • Pay online with a card through the self-service portal on Ctclink. Instructions are online for making a payment.
  • Pay by phone 425-564-2309 with a card, Monday through Friday from 8:30a.m. to 4:00p.m.
  • Pay in person at Bellevue College in U building first floor (at counters in the lobby)

Tuition Waiver

  • Help with tuition and parking is available for students with financial need. Apply for a tuition waiver here.

Tuition waivers:

  • are required for each quarter you are enrolled.
  • require your ctcLink ID and should be completed at time of registering in class or in the first two weeks of the quarter.
  • take 1-2 weeks to process.

Workforce Education

If your income is currently limited or you are currently receiving Basic Food Assistance (SNAP/EBT) or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) from DSHS, or you are receiving unemployment insurance benefits (UI), the Bellevue College WorkForce Education office may be able to help you pay for tuition, textbooks, childcare or transportation costs.  To qualify, you can Apply Online, or visit them for more information. They are located in the U Building, 2nd floor, in U 212.


Step 1: Set up an account and complete a Bellevue College application

  • Winter Quarter 2027: Apply by October 9 (Classes start Jan 4)
  • Spring Quarter 2027: Apply by January 22 (Classes start April 5)
  • Summer Quarter 2027: Apply by April 24 (Classes start July 6)

*You will receive your ctcLink ID number in an email within one week after you complete your application.

IMPORTANT!

  • Choose “Bellevue College” for college.
  • Choose “Transitional Studies” for Program.
  • Choose “English as a Second Language” for Degree or Certificate.
  • Choose “Winter 2027” for Term.

Step 2: Submit an ELA Interest Form

After you receive a ctcLink ID number submit an ELA Interest Form here.

  • The ELA Interest Form will be open
    • Winter Quarter 2027: November 9 – November 15
    • Spring Quarter 2027: February 22 – February 28
    • Summer Quarter 2027: May 24 – May 30
  • Submitting an ELA Interest Form does not ensure placement in a class.

Step 3: Check your email often

  • Students who receive an ELA Invitation email:
    • Follow the directions to reserve your spot in an ELA Orientation class. Attending Orientation class is required.
  • Students who do not receive an ELA Invitation by September 30, 2026 for Fall Quarter:
    • Complete another ELA Interest Form (repeat Step 2) in the next quarter.

Open Doors Youth Reengagement | CEO Program

Are you an English language learner aged 16-21 who wants to learn academic English to work toward an AA degree, GED, high school diploma, or professional/technical certificate? Visit the Language Integration Program (LIP) website for more information.

Who Qualifies?

Students are eligible for Youth Re-Engagement if they:

  • Do not currently have a high school diploma (GEDs are ok)
  • Reside within one of our partnering school districts
  • Are at least 16 and not yet 21 on or before Sept. 1 of the school year they wish to begin
  • Are credit deficient or have a counselor recommendation stating that they are unlikely to graduate from a traditional or alternative high school by the age of 21
