Welcome to the Playground!
This October, Interactive eLearning invites you back to the playground. A full month of quick, hands-on microlearning sessions designed to help you play, tinker, and try what’s next in your Canvas course. No full workshops, no heavy time commitment. Just 30 minutes at a time to explore new tools, fresh ideas, and small upgrades you can put to use right away.
Each week of the month brings a new lineup: AI tools, course makeovers, accessibility deep-dives, faculty show-and-tell, and a few genuine experiments — good and bad. Whether you’re chasing a specific tool or just curious what your colleagues have been building, there’s a session with your name on it.
Sessions run 30 minutes, Monday through Friday at 12:30–1:00 PM on Teams. Can’t make it live? Register anyway and recordings and materials will be shared with everyone via a Canvas Course.
No expertise required. Just bring your curiosity and come play.

How to register and attend:
Please view the Weekly Sessions below to register for the ones you’re interested in. When you register, you’ll receive an email with the Teams link for each session. Can’t make it live? No problem! Register anyway, and you will get access to a Canvas course where recording and resources will be posted afterward so you can catch up at your convenience.

Studio Q: Professional Podcasts and Video Lectures at Your Fingertips

Learn about the new equipment available in Studio Q and how this space can be used to support your class. Studio Q has been upgraded with professional audio recording equipment including a RODECASTER soundboard. Staff are available to assist you, and it is fun and easy to use the space. The studio is designed for video lecture and podcasts by faculty or your students.
From Gray to Green: Understanding DocAccess

Join us to learn how DocAccess can help improve the accessibility of your course materials. In this session, you’ll see how DocAccess converts PDFs in Canvas into screen reader-friendly HTML transcripts aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, all without altering the original PDF. We’ll explore the tool’s strengths, limitations, and best practices. Finally we will also share strategies for making the most of DocAccess during the pilot period as you prepare for the April 2027 digital accessibility compliance deadline.
Accessibility First Step: Improve Accessibility and Navigation using TidyUp

Canvas is NOT your course. But unfortunately, relying on an LMS for course delivery tends to reduce everything to digitally mediated communication and exchange where everything happens on one platform. Most students will never touch Canvas again once they complete their education. So why would we have them spend so much time on the platform? This session aims to rethink the Canvas paradigm, especially in the age of AI and the relative ease of creating plausible academic work it provides to students. How can we benefit from the utility of Canvas while focusing students on building durable knowledge and developing critical skills within their chosen discipline? This “return-to-basics” session will share several ideas and approaches for getting students off Canvas and into their work.

Open House: Inside the Instructional Design Showcase

We’ve built an Instructional Design Showcase in Canvas, and we’re excited to show you around! You’ll see a selection of course design projects we’ve worked on with faculty — what the problem was, what we built, and how it turned out — alongside a growing set of grab-and-go Canvas resources: templates, page layouts, and components you’re welcome to copy into your own course and adapt. Come look around, learn how you can initiate a design project, and leave with whatever assets you can use today. You’ll leave knowing where the Showcase lives so you can continue browsing it on your own time.
