RedShelf is an e-textbook service providing affordable, accessible digital course materials with features like highlighting, note-taking, and publisher integrations. It connects to Canvas for easy distribution and usage reporting, supporting inclusive formats such as audio and braille-ready exports. Faculty can customize collections to align with syllabi, reducing costs and barriers for students.
Use the RedShelf LTI integration to give every student day-one access to the required readings directly inside your Canvas course, with no separate logins or access codes for them to manage.
Browse RedShelf’s catalog of e-textbooks and courseware, request desk or exam copies, and submit adoptions for your courses without leaving the platform.
Highlight passages, add notes, bookmark pages, and use built-in study tools (like flashcards and search) right alongside your students so you can model good reading practices or reference shared content in class.
Take advantage of built-in features such as text-to-speech, adjustable display options, and compatibility with assistive technologies, helping you meet diverse learner needs and align with BC’s accessibility standards.
To access RedShelf (Brytewave) in Canvas, first open the course where you want to use the tool. A new My Materials link will appear in the Canvas Global Navigation, giving you direct access to all eBooks provided through RedShelf (BryteWave) or Kortext—no setup required. Digital courseware will continue to be delivered separately through Willo or other publisher-specific LTIs.
For mobile access, some additional setup is required at the course level. To ensure students can see the My Materials link in the Canvas mobile app, you’ll need to manually enable it in each course by going to Course Settings → Navigation → Enable “My Materials” → Save. Students can also download the RedShelf mobile app to access all their digital textbooks in one place, including when they are offline.
Use RedShelf Solve where you can search for “How to…” articles and submit a support request.
