Article database accessibility information
EBSCOHost databases using this interface that the Bellevue College library subscribes to include:
If using an EBSCOHost Article for a class, link to the article within EBSCOHost rather than uploading the PDF into your Canvas space. Linking enables users to view the HTML “full text” format if available, which, while lacking images, is generally the most flexible and accessible format. Linking also allows students to take advantage of the text to speech and MP3 download option. It also enables students to directly request an article be remediated for accessibility if it is not accessible.
In preparing for a class, you can reach out to EBSCO to remediate content for accessibility. The remediated copies will be provided as a Microsoft Word or HTML file. See EBSCO’s accessible content remediation request page for details.

The library’s JSTOR subscription primarily consists of journal articles, with some eBooks. ArtSTOR is primarily images. Journal articles are in PDF format, while eBooks can be in PDF or EPUB format.
There is a small amount of content in JSTOR & ArtSTOR that is contributed to the database by institutions. These are called Shared Collections. JSTOR cannot guarantee the accessibility of these uncontrolled collections. If there is an accessibility issue reported, JSTOR support will reach out to the contributor to request that they supply remediated content to the user.
If using JSTOR or ARTstor content for a class, link to the item within JSTOR in order for individuals to be able to access the accessible PDF or descriptive alt text.

The content in ACM Digital Library has historically been PDF files. To meet accessibility standards, ACM has started releasing HTML versions of articles. Newer content is more likely to be available in HTML content. Currently there is a mix of PDF only and PDF plus HTML content in ACM. Some legacy content remains in PDF format only and may not be fully accessible.
If using ACM digital library content for a class, check to see if the content is available in HTML format. HTML format in ACM will be present the entirety of the content in the browser. If it is available in HTML, you should link directly to the article in ACM. If the content is only available in PDF, you’ll need to utilize the campus’s PDF remediation services or tool. Please contact eLearning for assistance.
