Eight Bellevue Alumni Start NCAA Division I Play Today

Bellevue College baseball’s prominence at the NCAA division I level is reflected by representation on five schools listed in the national pre-season rankings; more than any other NWAACC school. Jerad Casper returns for the #4 ranked Oregon State University Beavers who open up against Gonzaga today. Senior Tyler Baumgarter returns for the #6 Oregon Ducks as they open up their season at the University of Hawaii, which features three Bellevue alums. Two of the four starting pitchers in the rotation for Hawaii are Bellevue grads; seniors Matt Cooper and Scott Kuzminsky will start games on the mound for Hawaii against their former teammate Baumgartner this weekend. Cooper will throw the first pitch of the season for Hawaii in the season opener tonight. An eighth Bellevue grad will also make his debut tonight; former ABCA all-American Jordan Richartz is slated to start offensively for Hawaii. Max Brown has his debut this weekend for the #28 ranked Kansas State Wildcats who open up with Cal Poly. Blake Fulghum, a senior pitcher opens up his final year of eligibility for the #35 ranked Liberty Flames as they open up at North Florida. Senior outfielder Colin Hering returns in the middle of the lineup for #40 Coastal Carolina. Hering’s debut this season will be put off to tomorrow as their season opener against Pitt has already been postponed due to weather.
