The Bellevue CC Men’s Basketball team was ranked #1 in a poll released by the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges on Tuesday. Previously ranked second, the Bulldogs (18-2, 8-0 Northern Region) received 6 first place votes to move up to the top spot. BCC leads their division with an undefeated record, and are gunning for their third straight division title.
Fueled by local talent, the Bulldogs boast several marquee players who starred on their high school teams, and are now proving themselves more than capable at the college level. Five Bulldog players are averaging double figures, led by freshman guard Steve Wiseley (Lake Washington HS) at 13.1 points per game. David Grant (SO, Roosevelt HS) is second, averaging 12.8 points, Paul Brockman (SO, Snohomish HS) is averaging 11 points, and Jordan Ard (SO, Prairie HS) and Toussaint Tyler Jr. (FR, Kentwood HS) are both averaging just over 10 points per contest. Point guard Luke Hammond (Mountlake Terrace HS) has been a solid all around contributor, while Sharpshooter Shea Frazee (SO, Redmond HS) has given Bellevue a lift off the bench, shooting 42.9% from three point range and 82.1% from the free throw line. Backup post Josh Monagle (FR, South Kitsap HS) has given the Bulldogs quality minutes off of the bench (8 points, 5 rebounds), while sophomore Marcus Fermon (SO, Bothell HS) has proven himself to be Bellevue’s defensive stopper in clutch situations. Backup post Randy Bolick (FR, Timpanogos HS, UT) rounds out the ten man active roster.
Fourth year coach Jeremy Eggers, a former WSU assistant and head coach at Bellevue High School, has his team on an 11 game win streak, and holding the best record since he took over the program in August 2003. That mark will be tested on Wednesday night when BCC travels to Bellingham to take on #7 Whatcom Community College. WCC trails Bellevue by two games in the Northern Region, and the teams needed overtime to decide their last meeting, a 73-72 Bulldogs victory on January 3 that came down to the final play. Bellevue’s next home game will be February 3 when they host North Seattle Community College. Both games will tip off at 7:30pm.
