Bellevue Climbs to Second in North

The BCC Volleyball team played their best match of the season at a critical juncture, crushing Skagit Valley College 30-28, 30-22, 30-12 on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs and Cardinals went into the night tied for second place in the Northern Region with identical 5-2 records, one game behind first place Whatcom Community College. The victory not only avenges a September 24 loss to the Cardinals, but also moves the Bulldogs one game ahead of Skagit in the Northern Region standings. BCC also managed to keep pace with Whatcom, who defeated Edmonds in three games.

The Bulldog attack was as sharp as it has been all season, led by Kasey Blevins’ (Fr, Ferris HS) and Marissa Bower (Fr, Anacortes HS), who recorded 17 and 14 kills respectively. Setter Sharon Kelley (Fr, Edmonds-Woodway HS) also had a good night, recording 42 assists and a career high 11 blocks.

As well as the offense played, the defense stole the show. Along with Kelley’s performance on the block, Bower and Jessica Dubois (So, Tumwater HS) turned in 6 blocks of their own… easily BCC’s best performance at the net this season. Libero Amanda Crank (So, Issaquah HS) was a defensive stalwart, with 22 digs, while Nicole Ljutic (So, West Valley HS, Yakima) added 12 of her own.

The Bulldogs’ schedule doesn’t get any easier, as they take to the road for a pair of critical Northern Region road games. On October 19 Bellevue visits Shoreline Community College, the only team in the region to defeat first place Whatcom. Next week, BCC will travel to Everett to play the Trojans of Everett Community College on October 24 at 7:00pm.
