Bellevue College’s baseball team (6-5 in league; 11-12 overall) will have to wait one more night to decide the four-game series finale with league rival Everett. The final game has been rained out consecutive nights and is now slated to be played Tuesday April 14th at 7:00 pm. In game one, the Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker 3-2. TJ Parthemer threw a complete game for Bellevue but was saddled with the loss as Everett had one key hit, a bases loaded double in the fifth inning that ultimately decided the outcome. On Saturday, the Bulldogs’ Kirk Wetmore out dueled Everett’s Keith Campbell in front of a gallery of major league baseball scouts. Wetmore struck out 12 while Campbell struck out 14 hitters in a pitcher’s duel that went into extra innings. Bellevue rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning as Ryan Shelton drove in Bellevue’s first run. Ian Parmley was forced in to tie the game and sent it into extra innings. In the eighth, a loss appeared imminent as Everett scored two to make the score 4-2. But in the bottom half of the inning, the ‘dogs again responded, this time with two outs, to score two runs to tie it again. Shelton again delivered, driving in the tying run. In the tenth, Shelton’s prep teammate, Dan Johansen singled in Parmley, who doubled earlier in the inning to score the game winner.
In game two, relief pitcher Jeff Bethke kept the Trojans off balance and maintained a 4-3 lead heading into the eighth inning until the Bellevue bats came alive to score 6 runs to coast to a 10-3 win. Michael Robertson, Hunter Beaty, and Keegan Acker each had three hits apiece. The ‘dogs collected 17 hits in the game.
On Tuesday April 14, Bellevue will travel back up to Everett Memorial Stadium for a 7:00 PM single 9-inning game to complete the 4-game series.
