Bulldogs Split Series Against Olympic: Series This Weekend to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Bellevue College’s baseball team split a four-game series last weekend against Olympic College. On both Saturday and Sunday, the Bulldogs lost the opening game before coming back to win the nightcaps. On Saturday, an outstanding pitching effort by Brian Buckham went to waste as Olympic rallied to score three quick runs in the top of the seventh to put the game into extra innings. Bellevue was unable to manufacture any runs since the fourth inning and lost in 10 innings, 4-3. In game two, TJ Parthemer struck out eight as Bellevue won 9-5. Kaylor Hasbargen came in and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the save while Michael Robertson had three hits.
On Sunday, Kirk Wetmore was the victim of another good pitching outing coming up on the short end, striking out nine but losing 3-2. In a game where every ball bounced the right way for Olympic and the wrong way for Bellevue, the Bulldogs came up empty handed. In game two, the bats finally came alive in an 11-2 romp. The Bulldog hitters pounded out 15 hits, led by the three hits apiece by Bryan Barnes, Lucas Shaw, and Ryan Shelton. Jay Taylor scattered three hits to earn the win before giving way to Ronnie Johnson, who earned his fourth save of the year by blanking the Rangers over the final three innings. This weekend, Bellevue plays a four-game set against current region leader Skagit Valley. Bellevue is currently battling Douglas College for the final playoff spot for the North Region tourney next week. The Bulldogs record over the weekend must either be equal or better than Douglas’ record in their four-game series against second place Edmonds to make the playoffs. Saturday’s doubleheader will be at Courter Field at 1PM while Sunday’s will be at Skagit Valley.
