Bulldogs Split Series Against Rival Edmonds

Bellevue College’s baseball team split doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday over the weekend as finished 2-2 for the second straight weekend in league play. The Bulldogs are tied for third place in the competitive North Region at 4-4. On Saturday at Courter Field, Bellevue staged a dramatic comeback to win 4-3. After two consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Bellevue managed to get three runners on base before Mike Stone delivered a two-out two-RBI single to win the game. Although he was not credited with the win, TJ Parthemer kept Bellevue in the game by scattering only five hits and one run through six innings of work on the mound. In game two, Bellevue appeared to be in control with a 2-0 lead as Kirk Wetmore had a no-hitter through five innings. Edmonds rallied for eight runs in the sixth inning and held on for an 8-5 win. On Sunday, Bellevue had a 4-0 lead with no hits in the game; as Edmonds pitcher Ricky Denham walked in three runs. Edmonds stormed back to tie the game then later took the lead for good in the sixth. The no-hitter was broken up in the final inning by Cody Edwards’ single to right field. In game two, Lucas Shaw belted his fourth home run of the year as Bellevue cruised to a 10-1 win. Bryan Barnes was 5-for-5 and had several highlight plays at shortstop for the Bulldogs. Jay Taylor worked seven innings while giving up only one run for the win. The Bulldogs will travel to Centralia for a non-league game Wednesday night before squaring off with another division rival, Everett, this Saturday and Sunday. To accommodate Easter Sunday activities, the doubleheader on Sunday April 12 will begin at 4:00 PM at Everett Memorial Stadium.
