Bulldogs Take Three of Four Over Olympic in League Opener

Bellevue College’s baseball team came back from deficits in three of the four games this weekend to go 3-1 against Olympic College in the league opening series for both teams. On Saturday April 3 in Bremerton, Bellevue surrendered 5 runs on three errors before answering back with 10 runs in the 6th and 7th innings combined to take control of the opening game. Ian Parmley surrendered only one earned run for the win on the mound. Cody Edwards had two hits in the 6th inning alone during the big 6-run 6th. Edwards, Cory Urquhart, Nick Smith, and Tyler Cox all had 2 RBI’s. In game two, Bellevue scored 4 early runs but were stymied the rest of the way, losing 5-4 in extra innings.

On Easter Sunday, the Bulldogs battled blustery winds all day coming out on top with a sweep winning 9-3 and 9-5 in the nightcap. In game one, Olympic jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a home run by Olympic RBI leader Bo Folkinga. The Bulldogs again rallied from behind with a big inning, scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Jake Collier and Ryan Burnett had multiple RBI hits while Parmley had 2 hits in the inning. He ended up with 3 RBI’s on the day. Kyle Swannack labored in his outing on the mound but got sharper towards the end and threw a complete game. It was Bellevue’s first complete game by a starting pitcher 23 games into the season. In game two, Bellevue’s Kyle Long was brilliant on the mound, blanking the Rangers through 4 nearly perfect innings until getting roughed up in the 5th, yielding a 5-1 lead for Olympic. Blake Fulghum entered and pitched 3 1/3 of shutout relief before giving way to Ronnie Johnson in the 9th. Fulghum lowered his ERA to 1.40 on the year and earned the win and is now 4-0. Bellevue again came back from the 5- 1 deficit with back-to-back 3-run innings in the 6th and 7th to put the game away. Cody Edwards had 3 hits while Ryan Burnett and Jonathan Leung made big splashes in their weekend debuts. Burnett homered in the 5th while Leung lined a 2-RBI double to the wall in left field and went 2 for 4 in the game. Bellevue is now 3-1 in league and 15-9 overall. This weekend the Bulldogs host Shoreline at Courter Field for a 1PM doubleheader before closing out the series on Sunday with another 1PM doubleheader which will be played at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.
