Bellevue College’s baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday May 1 against Skagit Valley and lost the first game of the Sunday May 2 twin bill in Mount Vernon before a steady rain came, prompting the postponement of the series finale. Game four of the four-game set will be played on the first available date, weather permitting, at Skagit Valley College. Start time likely to be late afternoon or early evening. On Saturday May 1, Bellevue won an extra-inning thriller 1-0 in the opener. Pitchers Ian Parmely of Bellevue and Skagit’s Brandon Andreini took shutouts into the eight inning. Garrett Patterson laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score pinch runner Ryan Burnett with the game-winner. Jonathan Leung provided the clutch hit, a double to right field, to put the game-winning run into scoring position. In game two, Bellevue’s Jake Collier pitched six solid innings before becoming his own victim with a errant pickoff throw that gave Skagit Valley a 2-1 lead they never relinquished. The Bulldogs, down 6-3 in the final inning, had bases loaded with only one out but hit into a game-ending double play. Tyler Cox homered and had two hits to lead Bellevue.
On Sunday May 2, Skagit’s late streak of scoring on Saturday continued as they put up four runs on six hits in the first three innings off Bellevue starter Kyle Swannack as Skagit cruised to a 7-0 win. The Bulldogs hit into three double-plays to end threats as Bellevue had no luck in any department on Sunday.
