Bellevue Softball Finishes Regular Season Taking Two Over Skagit Valley

The Bellevue softball team finished its regular season with a doubleheader at the University of Washington field against Skagit Valley on Sat., May 15.

In game one, the Bulldogs won 4-0 behind the stellar pitching of Ashleigh Carter who threw a one-hit shutout, striking out a season-high 16 batters to pick up the victory. In game two, the Bulldog bats came alive scoring nine runs on 13 hits, beating SVC 9-1. Megan McLachlan and Tobey Varney led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, while BC’s Breonna Chrisman picked up the victory scattering five hits over six innings, giving up just one run.

After starting the league season 6-4, the Bulldogs finished strong down the stretch going 13-1 in the final 14 games to finish the year at 19-5 in league and 31-10 overall. The Bulldogs were ranked in the NWAACC Coaches poll the entire season and secured a second place finish in the North Region. Bellevue faces East third-ranked Columbia Basin in the first-round game at the NWAACC Softball Championships. The Bulldogs play Fri., May 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Delta Park in Portland. This year marks the sixth straight year that the Bulldogs finished either first or second in the North Region and earned a berth to playoffs.

“I am very happy with the way the team played down the stretch. We struggled with some early league losses, but the players kept working hard throughout the year and finished strong. I am proud of the way they came together as a team,” said head coach Leah Francis, “It has been a very rewarding year for us and I look forward to taking this team to the playoff tournament.”
