Volleyball Wins Two, Looks to Climb in League Standings

On October 6th, the Bellevue Bulldogs hosted the Skagit Valley College Cardinals and swept the match, 3-0. After playing two matches the previous week that went all five games, the Bulldogs were pleased to finish a quick match. Jenessa Reid of Bellevue recorded 12 kills, a team high. Lisa Schouten and Alexa Lagazo contributed with nine and seven respectively. Overall, seven bulldogs recorded at least one kill. Most of them were set up by Veronica Wetzel once again, with 26 assists.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held the Cardinals under 20 points in all three games. Gabby Garrido tallied seven digs and Kim Becker added six as seven other players also recorded a dig throughout the match. As a team, Bellevue recorded a total of seven blocks.

The end result was a sweep of Skagit Valley 25-17, 25-14, and 25-19 for a Bellevue victory.

During the second match of the week for the Bulldogs held on October 8th, Bellevue once again had a clean sweep; this time against Everett Community College. Schouten recorded the team high in kills with ten. Reid and Lagazo combined for ten kills as well. Wetzel continued her role as the team’s primary setter with 24 assists. The team showed a high level of endurance as nine of 12 players played in all three games of the match.

A new defensive player emerged for the Bulldogs as Dez Diego finished the match with eight digs. It was a total team effort though on defense, as the team totaled 22 digs by the end of the night.

The Cardinals lost 3-0 to the Bulldogs 25-12, 25-16, and 25-20. It concluded a winning week for Bellevue and their winning streak stands at three. Bellevue is now in fourth place in the north division of the NWAACC with a 3-2 record in league play. Their next match will take place in Bellingham, WA on October 13th against Whatcom and will also participate in the Clark Crossover Tourney in Vancouver, WA October 15th and 16th.
