BC Women’s Tennis Takes Three at Home

The Bellevue College women’s tennis team bested another 4-year school, taking Whitman College 8-1 in the match hosted by BC at Robinswood on Friday, April 8. The only loss of the match, and the weekend, was Bellevue’s #1 singles player, Anissa Bryant-Swift, who was defeated by Whitman’s Elise Otto in sets 7-6, 2-6, 10-7. But Bryant-Swift, paired with BC’s Erica Leong, came back to beat Otto/Emily Rolston in doubles 8-3.

In league matches Saturday and Sunday, Bellevue again came out the winner: defeating Treasure Valley 9-0 on April 9, and Skagit Valley 9-0 on April 10. Bellevue singles winners both days included #1 Bryant-Swift, #2 Martha Santos, #3 Erica Leong, #4 Jazmin Ahyat, and Jenessa Reid, playing at #5 against TVCC. Doubles matches were won by Bryant-Swift/Leong, Ahyat/Santos, and Amber Portka/Martinez-Villa.

The most anticipated set was the match-up between Bellevue’s #1 Bryant-Swift and SVC’s previously undefeated #1 Lindsey Newman. It was touch-and-go for both women for a time, with Bryant-Swift losing the first game 4-6, taking the second 6-4, and finally wrapping it up for the Bulldogs at 6-0.

Bellevue women’s tennis now stands at 3-0 in league play, 6-0 on the season, and is tied with Spokane in the league. Next home match for Bellevue is Friday, April 15, at 1 p.m., taking on Green River (0-4) at Robinswood. The Bulldogs then travel to Shoreline (0-2) on Sunday, April 17, for a 1 p.m. match.
