Bellevue Pitchers Shine in Split at Douglas

Nick Kiel and Aaron Sandefur both had stellar outings on Friday May 2 at Douglas College. Unfortunately, only one brought home a win as Bellevue lost 1-0 in Kiel’s outing in game one in the bottom of the seventh inning before Sandefur’s 13 strikeout gem propelled the Bulldogs to a 5-0 win in the nightcap.  Kiel held Douglas hitless through the first four innings then escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth as botched suicide squeeze play allowed Bellevue to go unscathed, keeping the game at 0-0. Douglas would not let the mistake happen twice, as they put up a leadoff double and a single to win it in the final inning. The Bulldogs’ best chances to win were in the first two innings. Bellevue had runners on second and third with one out in the first and the bases loaded with one out in the second and could not generate a run. In game two, Sandefur had a no-hitter through eight innings but settled for a one-hit outing with 13 strikeouts. After being unable to push across a run in game one, Bellevue’s offense made it seem easy in game two, putting up two quick runs in the first on a double by Brady Kerr and a single by Nick Pribble. Aaron Stroosma added an RBI triple in the fourth as did Sheldon Stober in the ninth.
