Bellevue College Men’s soccer has started their 2014 campaign with a 2-1 record; their best start under Head Coach Andrew Croft.

The Bulldogs started the season with an 8-1 win against South Puget Sound at the NWAC Friendlies on August 26. Two freshmen led the Bulldogs with multiple goals as Brody Fitzsimmons scored three while fellow newcomer Anthony Dean added two. Freshmen Diego Ventura, Antonio Lago, and sophomore Miguel Hernandez all got on the score sheet with one goal apiece.

“It was great to start out scoring a lot of goals,” Croft said. “We had trouble scoring goals last year, so these are exactly what our young guys were brought into do.”

The Bulldogs continued their winning and scoring ways the following day against Treasure Valley with a 3-0 win on August 27. Dean scored two goals and sophomore Ricardo Gijon-Hernandez tallied the third and final goal.

Over the weekend on Saturday September 1, the Bulldogs opened up league play with their home opener against the Skagit Valley Cardinals with a 1-0 loss.

“They were a very good team,” said coach Croft. “We had our opportunities and couldn’t capitalize, and they were able to capitalize on theirs. That’s what this game is about. However, we showed some great things that we can build on for the rest of the season. We also came out of the match learning a lot about ourselves and where we want to go,” noted Croft.

The Bulldogs continue league play this week on Wednesday, September 3 against west region rival Olympic College in Bremerton. The Bulldogs will then play another cross-division game on Saturday September 6 vs. Shoreline CC with a scheduled 7:45 start at Twin Ponds Park in Seattle.
