Cold shooting from the beginning of the game doomed Bellevue as they were shocked on their home floor by visiting Peninsula 70-54 yesterday afternoon at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. The loss snapped a 13-game win streak for the Bulldogs. Bellevue was 8-for-35 from the field in the first half, putting up plenty attempts with few going in. Bellevue also committed 15 turnovers and were outrebounded 61-40 by Peninsula. Mikayla Jones had 12 points and five rebounds to lead Bellevue while Shelby Kassuba had 11 points and also led BC with 11 rebounds. Sophomore Hunter Hopkins added 11 points and six rebounds.  The loss was a critical one for Bellevue. Not only was it on their home floor, but it was to Peninsula, who now shares first place with Bellevue at 11-1 in league play. With only two games remaining in league play, should both teams win out, Bellevue would take second place in the seeding for the NWAC Championships due to the tie-breaker format (random numbering assignment to break ties). Bellevue travels to Whatcom this Wednesday February 25 to take on the Orcas at Meridian HS (Whatcom’s gym undergoing a remodel). Tipoff is set for 5PM.
