Bellevue Women’s Basketball Defeat Everett; Begins NWAC Championship on Saturday

In front of their home crowd for the final time on Sunday March 1, Bellevue College’s women’s basketball team stormed out to an 11-point halftime lead then held on for a 72-62 win over Everett at Courter Family Pavilion. Before the game,  Coach Mel Stubblefield honored the sophomores who played their final home game. Hunter Hopkins and Eboney Jackson, both sophomores, started and contributed to the win as Jackson pulled down eight rebounds and had three blocked shots. Hopkins had 17 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Shelby Kassuba led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. Bellevue ends regular season play as runner-up in the North Region at 12-2 (21-8 overall). In his first year as Head Coach, Stubblefield led BC to a 20-win season. Up next is the NWAC Championships in the Tr-Cities. The 16-team event begins on Saturday March 7. The Bulldogs drew the tourney opener at 8AM and will face SW Oregon.
